Pink Mold: Understanding the Type and the Effect – You probably have come across the pink mold in some areas of your house and yet you don’t really know that it is actually a mold. You probably think that it is just a common stain that exists in your living space. So, what is the pinkish thing, anyway?
Pink Mold: What Is It?
The pink mold has its own scientific name, the Aureobasidium, and it can be found both on the inside and the outside areas of the house. Despite the cute and adorable color, a mold is a mold. This pinkish mold can be responsible for many health conditions, such as the respiratory issues, the lungs’ bleeding, the rashes and hives, and the allergic reactions. They are just some common problems caused by this cute mold.
Although this mold can affect anyone, it is the elderly and the infants that will experience the severe signs. If you have pets at home, they can be affected by the mold too. If you notice any pinkish stain or funny texture around the house, it is better that you come with a solution right away – than leaving your family being exposed to the problem in a longer term.
Pink Mold and the Common Locations
Where can you find the pink mold, anyway? Just like other molds, this type of mold can be found in any damp and humid area like the showers, bathtubs, and even inside the tiles grout. It is also possible to find the mold in bathroom cabinets, carpet, wallpaper, and also behind the mirrors.
This is one of the many reasons not to use carpets inside the bathrooms. Moisture can easily seep into carpets and turn the area into a perfect mold’s breeding ground. In case you have used a rug or a carpet inside the bathroom, be sure to have a regular wash and always dry it completely before placing it back to the bathroom.
The Prevention
If you don’t want this pinkish mold from coming back to your house, be sure to have a better air circulation, especially in the bathroom. Open the window so the moisture can go out and dry. Install a bathroom’s fan to prevent moisture accumulation. It is also a good idea to always wipe the shower down so there won’t be any shampoo or soap leftover – mold thrives on such remaining. It would also be wise to have a regular check for the leaked pipe or water accumulation. If you do this regularly, you won’t see the presence of the pink mold again.
